Most antivirus products use their own browser extensions to block known malicious websites, but Sophos Home and Home Premium go old-school, with a database of malicious sites built right into the core antivirus software. By contrast, Kaspersky had perfect 100% scores both times. That's even worse than Sophos' 88% score in the previous round. In October-December 2020 tests by London-based SE Labs, Sophos fell well behind the pack with an 86% protection score, letting eight out of 100 pieces of malware infect a test machine. Bitdefender, ESET, Kaspersky and Microsoft all got 99.8% or 99.9% detection scores in the enterprise tests. ![]() The testing of Intercept X by AV-Comparatives in August through November mirrors these results with an overall 98.3% score. In the same tests, the enterprise software of every other premium antivirus brand we regularly review detected 100% of zero-day malware from July through October. In AV-TEST's November-December 2020 enterprise round, Sophos finally aced all four tests, the first time it had done so in a year. It detected 100% of the widespread malware in all of AV-TEST's 2020 evaluations from January through October but missed quite a few of the zero-days. Overall, Sophos Intercept X Endpoint was stronger at finding and removing known, widespread malware threats than brand-new "zero-day" ones. Latest lab-test results as of January 2021 Row 0 - Cell 0 If that's not enough, Sophos offers free stand-alone security tools and utilities, including the Hitman Pro malware removal applications and two software firewalls. Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux is free and compatible with most major 64-bit Linux distributions, including CentOS, Debian, Red Hat, SUSE and Ubuntu, but it isn't integrated into the PC and Mac software. There are Intercept X apps for phones and tablets that require at least Android version 5.0 or iOS version 11. Macs require macOS 10.12 (Sierra) through 10.15 (Catalina), but the latest macOS 11.0.1 (Big Sur) release only protects against malware in the coming months, Sophos will add website blocking to its repertoire. ![]() ![]() Sophos Home Premium is based on the company's business-minded Intercept X security software and works with Windows 7 (with Service Pack 1) through Windows 10. There's no hardened browser, but Sophos can encrypt keystrokes, stop potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) and block known dangerous websites, and its online account lets you remotely scan your other computers as long as they're online.Ĭlearly, it's for antivirus customers who value price and simplicity over having every last security and privacy feature. ![]() Bambi races ahead as gunshots ring out, and upon reaching the thicket, is terrified to realize that he is alone. Soon the grass begins to grow again, and Bambi and his mother return to the meadow to graze, but there, Bambi's mother becomes alarmed and orders him to run. Bambi is mystified by the occurrence, and his mother explains that "Man was in the forest." Later, in the winter, Thumper and a clumsy Bambi ice skate on a pond covered with "stiff water." The season is harsh, however, and Bambi's mother diligently forages for food for her hungry son. The Great Prince senses danger, however, and helps Bambi and his mother reach the forest as a gunshot echoes through the meadow. The Great Prince then walks through the meadow, and Bambi is awed by his father's majestic bearing. Bambi and Thumper play and eat clover, although Bambi is overcome with shyness upon meeting a pretty little girl fawn named Faline. One day, Bambi's mother takes him to the meadow to graze, but warns him that he must be careful as the meadow is without sufficient cover. Bambi and his mother lead an idyllic life, cuddling to ward off April showers and enjoying the protection of the forest. While learning to say "flower," Bambi is confused when a young skunk emerges from a patch of blossoms and assumes he is being named, but the skunk is pleased by his new moniker. Later, Thumper accompanies Bambi on a walk, teaching him how to say "bird" and introducing him to the beauties of the wilderness. Especially interested in Bambi, the new arrival, is young rabbit Thumper, who watches the fawn take his first awkward steps. She began her career as an actor, starting out as a child on films like The Adventures of Baron Munchausen before going on to star in titles like Dawn of the Dead, and is represented by WME, GGA in Canada, Circle of Confusion and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. One April morning, the animal inhabitants of the forest welcome a new fawn, the son of the Great Prince of the Forest. Other directorial credits for Polley include the WGA Award and Cinema Eye Honors Award-winning documentary Stories We Tell, examining the family of storytellers of which she’s a part, and the acclaimed dramas Take This Waltz and Away from Her. It also earned her Critics’ Choice and WGA Awards, a Golden Globe nomination and other major accolades. Polley directed the film from her script, seeing it released by United Artists Releasing following its fall bow at Telluride. ![]() Polley’s acclaimed ensemble drama Women Talking, based on the novel by Miriam Toews, drew on the real 2010 story of a Bolivian Mennonite colony to examine the impossible choice grappled with by the women of an isolated religious community following numerous incidents of sexual assault by the men they thought they knew. Polley will certainly be in good company if and when her deal for the project closes, joining a list of directors tapped by Disney for these films that also includes Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh, Niki Caro, Guy Ritchie, Tim Burton and Robert Zemeckis, to name only a few. The most recent installment in this series, which has done huge business fo the studio, is the Rob Marshall-helmed The Little Mermaid, which has grossed over $414M since bowing in theaters on May 26th. Polley’s take on Bambi will be the latest in a long line of live-action films to adapt Disney’s classic animated features. Pic was entered into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, given its cultural, historic and aesthetic significance, in December 2011. The film helmed by David Hand and assorted sequence directors grossed over $267M worldwide, landed Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Song and Original Music Score, and has endured as a classic over the years, assuredly continuing to traumatize young viewers with its famous depiction of the death of Bambi’s mother to this day. An adaptation of Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, released by RKO Radio Pictures in 1942, the original Bambi was just the fifth animated feature ever to emerge from Disney. The film is of course the coming-of-age story of Bambi, the young deer struck by tragedy who counts amongst his woodland pals - the rabbit Thumper and a skunk named Flower. ![]() ![]() If you suggest to an Arizonian to change their clocks in the summer to get more sunshine, they laugh in your face. This is particularly true in a place like Phoenix: where the average summer high is 107 degrees and the record is 122. If people get more sunshine, but don’t use it to go outside then Daylight Saving Time might actually cost electricity, not save it. ![]() The magic box of cool that makes otherwise uninhabitable sections of the world quite tolerable places to live.īut, pumping heat out of your house isn’t cheap and turning on one air conditioner is the same as running dozens of tungsten light bulbs. That turns out to be a surprisingly difficult question to answer.įor example, take mankind’s greatest invention: AIR CONDITIONING. This sounds logical, and it may have worked back in the more regimented society of a hundred years ago, but does it still work in the modern world? The reasoning goes that it encourages people to say out later in the summer and thus use less artificial lighting. The Germans thought daylight saving time would conserve energy. Though, the uber-industrious Germans were less concerned with catching butterflies on a fine summer evening than they were with saving coal to feed the war machine. ![]() Hudson proposed his idea in Wellington in 1895 – but it wasn’t well received and it took until 1916 for Germany to be the first country to put it into practice. So it’s no surprise that the further a country is from the equator the more likely it uses daylight saving time. As so, Hawaii is one of two states in the Union that ignore daylight saving time.īut, the further you travel from the equator in either direction the more the seasons assert themselves and you get colder and darker winters, making summer time much more valuable to the locals. If you live in a tropical place like Hawaii, you don’t really have to worry about seasons because they pretty much don’t happen.Įvery day, all year is sunny and beautiful so christmas is just as good of a day to hit the beach as any other. When winter is coming the clocks move back, presumably because people won’t want to go outside anymore.īut, winter doesn’t have this affect on everyone. Hudson, in particular, wanted more sunlight so he could spend more time adding to his insect collection. This switch effectively gives people more time to enjoy the sunshine and nice summer weather after work. The time when the clocks are moved forward is called Daylight Saving Time and the rest of the year is called Standard Time. Of course, it’s important to note that changing a clock doesn’t actually make more sunlight – that’s not how physics works.īut, by moving the clocks forward an hour, compared to all other human activity, the sun will seem to both rise and set later. The original idea, proposed by George Hudson, was to give people more sunlight in the summer. To the vast majority of the world who doesn’t participate in this odd clock fiddling – it seems a baffling thing to do. ScriptĮvery year some countries move their clocks forward in the spring only to move them back in the autumn. According to a Rasmussen poll a plurality of respondents, 47% didn’t think that changing the clocks for Daylight Saving Time was worth it. ![]() Each type is used for different types of data and relationships between variables.
